Collecting Testimonials
Best time to ask: Right after a milestone or win - that’s when clients are happiest.
When to Ask
- After reaching a goal
- After completing a package
- When they share excitement about progress
- At the end of a successful challenge
How to Ask
Keep it simple:
“Hey [Name], I’m so proud of what you’ve achieved! Would you mind sharing a few sentences about your experience that I could use on my website? Totally fine if not, but it really helps other people like you find me.”
What to Ask For
Give prompts to get useful responses:
- “What was your biggest challenge before we started?”
- “What results have you seen?”
- “What surprised you about training with me?”
- “What would you tell someone considering working with me?”
Writing Great Testimonials
If clients give you permission to edit for clarity, follow these guidelines:
Good Testimonials Include:
- The Before - What they struggled with
- The Experience - What working with you was like
- The Result - What they achieved
- The Emotion - How it made them feel
Example of a Great Testimonial:
“Before working with [Your Name], I’d tried every diet and gym membership imaginable. Nothing stuck. In just 12 weeks, I lost 12kg and actually enjoy working out now. The personalised approach made all the difference - I finally feel confident in my own skin.”
— Sarah M., Lost 12kg
Testimonials to Avoid
| Type | Why It’s Weak |
|---|---|
| ”Great trainer!” | Too vague, no specifics |
| ”Would recommend” | Doesn’t say why |
| Very old testimonials | Suggests you haven’t had recent success |
| Anonymous quotes | Less trustworthy |
Getting Permission
Always get explicit permission before using client testimonials:
- Written consent - Email or message confirming it’s OK
- Photo permission - Separate consent for using their image
- Name preference - Full name, first name + last initial, or first name only
Testimonial Photos
Photos with testimonials significantly increase trust.
Good testimonial photos:
- Clear, friendly headshot
- Before/after transformations (with permission)
- Action shots during training

- Minimum 150 x 150 pixels
